Religious objects are present everywhere in Jerusalem; Mezuzah at the door frame, David Star on Israeli flag, Kosherness at McDonald’s. By linking the ordinary elements to higher meaning, which they definitely inherit deep down, an artificial belief is created. This artificial belief by all means can help you to escape the religiousness of Jerusalem while it is re-routing your attention towards the urban artefact and altogether towards the marks of society in the urban construct. Therefore the project of the „Pilgrimage to the Ordinary” is being invented. The project proposes a re-engagement with the facades of Jerusalem and its elements as votive offerings to build up a shrine. An institution with the potential to contemplate on our world, which is laced with technical interventions and filled with nowadays essential matters.
