Session 2: Becoming alive!

Session 2: Becoming alive!, Date: 07.05.20, Guest: Dr. Kerstin Göpfrich

Kerstin Göpfrich works on Biophysics and Synthetic Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg where she is combining DNA Nanotechnology and microfluidics to assemble synthetic cells. She is fascinated by the thought of creating an entire living cell from scratch. In Session 2 folded DNA, human cells and individual ways of communicating complex scientific discoveries became an inspiration source for the group. The question is how artificially constructed material could become alive, how it could look like and what it could do was raised. It was speculated what could or should be done in a methodological manner.

o Dare and to Do.

Interdisciplinary seminar series in the second study phase at the ABK Stuttgart

The Dare’n’Do seminar is intended to offer students in higher semesters of the departments Industrial Design, Communication Design, Textile Design and Architecture a space for open-ended, experimental and productive research. Through a series of lectures, discussions and workshops, students will be inspired by experts from other disciplines, giving them the opportunity to reflect on the relevance and potential of their own design work and transfer the input into a productive and experimental process.
